Freedom of Choice brings up powerful emotions in a lot of people. Often we think of abortion and other issues that lead to bickering and arguing. Ask anyone about it, the answers you will get are predictable to a certain extent. However people have forgotten there are other things we can choose, like schools.
Now before you say I am for private schools to take away the “right of public schools” , let me say this : Lets give public schools a chance, a new lease on life. Many students go to school based on where they live. You have no choice none at all. If you get a great school with programs actually relevant to your future career, good for you. If you get a school trapped into a poverty stricken area ruled with teachers who could care less about you, that are motivated by stipends , you can do nothing. Lets revaluate this situation.
What if we could choose? Well, bad schools would collapse and collect dust. Good schools would (theoretically) thrive as long as students who cared attended. Those who didn’t should be able to attend vocational schools from the start instead of waste everyone’s time. Transportation should still be provided by the schools free of charge. This may sound costly and machiavellian at times but in reality it isn’t.
Schools can be run on low funds and still teach good. This has been noticed before, with a combination of certain factors like students who care and good teachers, public schools could work. Why don’t we hire teachers instead of disheveled philosophy majors earning money to pay off his masters while studying during work. That should fix the problem.
We should give public schools a chance, there will be other problems involved but the possibilities would be great for those children who would have been stuck in schools were there is little hope for them to succeed.
