In order to reduce crime one needs to look at why the offenses occur. One major reason I believe is the lack of an educated population in the city. In a city over-run with crime and homeless and much of the city living at the poverty line, I think a child growing up in this town would have a hard time getting through twelve years of school let alone thinking about attending any kind of college in the future. I believe that in order to clean up a city and lower its crime rate one needs to look at the future generations. In order to turn kids away from crime, they need to stay in school and in order for them to do that; the parents need to be involved in their child's life. I feel that if a city was to start a plan where if a child attended school in that specific city for the full twelve years, then the city would provide compensation for the child to attend college. Having educated future generations prevents unemployment and if a city were to initiate a plan such as this I feel that families from other cities would want to move in. This would create new business and many more new jobs, which would raise unemployment and the poverty level. Having a low unemployment rate means reduced crime. Statistics have shown that people who have no money and without a promising future, display the violent and destructive behavior that leads to crime. For these reasons, I feel this will help a city's crime problem.
