Fashion and Society

The styles of fashion greatly affect society. You would think that society would affect fashion more but to me that isn't the case. Though the society is the one buying the clothes which do create fashion changes but fashion changes the ideas and values on us. With fashion, society has now changed how we look at size. Recently, I was shown a picture of a model, she looked like any other models on the runway. basically normal, but the truth is she weighted 88lbs. She died at age 21 due to anorexia. This is a dangerous problem in our society. The view and judgement we make on ourselves and others do cause damage physically and psychologically.
We compare ourselves to those shown in fashion shows. Tall, skinny, beautiful, basically flawless. They all look the same, and society as a whole wants to modify ourselves to look slimmer and taller. Retail stores don't help much either. They display happy, carefree looking kids, making buying feel like 'if we look like them and buy their clothes, we'll be as happy and as carefree as them!'.
What is fashion besides clothes and accessories? who are we all trying to impress? and if they are only impressed with what brand we wear or how we look, are they worth impressing? Previously I've had a blog on diets and I know nothing is going to change the way society judges people, but believe in yourself. If you are confident enough in yourself, the way you dress, your attitude about life, then maybe you can change fashion, which in turn changes society.
