It is such a blessing to see how many new people have come to join us this Summer. Usually, we see a drastic increase in membership and participation only during the contest months and things, well, sort of fall off the map in between.
I love the fact that the majority of users over the past couple of weeks are relatively new, coming to Progressive U with no prejudice or preconceived notions about either the site, its intentions, other users, or the scholarship itself.
I wish each of you the best of luck in the coming contest and hope you use this time to get acquainted with the many features that Progressive U has to offer. I look forward to watching you each grow into your own blogging-personality...
But, aside from the many new features we have been implementing, and the new features we plan to implement, we must still remember to remain civil with each other.
People are drawn to Progressive U for the intellectual conversations that often happen here. The overall maturity level and intelligence level far outweighs several other networking and blogging sites, and we, as users, have to work to maintain that.
Name calling, personal attacks, and accusations violate Progressive U's Terms of Service. Each of us have agreed to follow this TOS upon opening our individual accounts. Heated debates are going to happen; they often do when discussing politics and religion (which composes about 70% of this site).
We all have our opinions on various issues; and we each have a right to those opinions however they are founded. But we come here because Progressive U allows us a place to present our opinions to others in a comfortable atmosphere. To maintain that comfort, we each must respect the opinions of others (even the ones we completely disagree with) and refrain from abusive language that will serve only to erode the comfort of other users.
These are comments and opinions; not attacks or allegations. Please remember that when posting your comments and replies. We don't like feeling that we're censoring someone when we have to delete or amend a comment that contained such violations; but we will do so to maintain the overall comfort level of this site...

I agree with you, we all should respect each other's opinions and point of views.
I blog a lot on myspace and more about myself and mostly for my sister. She likes to read them and see what I am up to. I feel like a kid here. Everyone's writings are so mature and more like papers. I will get there someday. I came here at first for the scholarship and I can actually get on this site from work. No one knows me here either so less prejudicial judgment.
why you no-good dirty rotten scoundrel! how dare you accuse me of being uncivil?! clearly i am your intellectual superior, as evidenced by my poor spelling, complete disregard for any and all rules of english grammar, and blind faith in everything other people tell me.
in short: neener neener. *blows raspberry*
...is something one of those people might say. =P
i don't really like those people, but what's even more annoying than the insults bandied about is how illiterate the people throwing them out seem to be.

*agrees with above* I might be a complete newbie (and looking forward to this ^^) but I detest spammers and flamers. And the people who think newbies are equivalent to n00bs. Especially when they can't be bothered to spell correctly and insist that acronyms and messages composed completely of smilies are legitemite opinions. (I didn't spell that right, did I?)
I completely agree..I mean, insults in actual English are one thing, but in chatspeak where it's hard to tell if you're being insulted in the first place...yeah.
Okay, ranting done. Looking forward to this a lot. ^^
I agree! I also just wanted to say that I really liked your title
i agree we are all young adults and should conduct ourselves like such!
Unfortunately, not everyone agrees with you.
LyK OmGawD did u heer wat she sed? wtf.
That is the kind of stuff I will continue to fight against. And by fight I mean verbally commenting until they decide this site really isn't for them. That isn't abuse. That is self defense for the sake of my brain cells.
