Why i Hate Dump Trucks and Absolute Athority

So the other day i was taking my second favorite route home (the one which is a perfect compromise between fun and efficiency) and i was strongly reminded of my sharp distaste for absolute authority. The route in question is mostly made up of a single two-lane road with a speed limit largely ignored by the local population. While cruising along this road at a comfortable pace a came upon a line a cars led by an out-of-state sedan who was obviously unaware of the local customs. Oddly enough this sedan's ignorance did not frustrate me as i would have expected it to. It was a beautiful day and i was perfectly content to mosey along in line enjoying the fine weather.

Not long after my entrance into the parade, a dump truck came up behind me and was forced to slow to the new pace. More cars were probably added afterwards, but my view was now blocked. In any case, the line was slowly approaching one of the two three-lane sections of the road and i assumed that the majority of the line would take that opportunity to pass the ill-informed sedan. This being my prediction i was not surprised when the SUV in front of me immediately moved into the left lane when it began. This is where my future-telling skills ended however, as instead of accelerating to pass, the SUV merely sat in the left lane matching speed with all the cars still in line. Once again i surprised myself by my lack of annoyance at this man's inconsiderate driving, and instead laughed to myself thinking how frustrated some of the cars further back in the line must be.

Eventually the SUV turned left into a parking lot, but by that time the passing lane had almost run out and there was no time to get passed all the cars in the line and reach the front where a more normal speed could be reached. The dump truck behind me, however, seemed to be unaware of this fact or else he grossly over-estimated his vehicle’s ability, or may he was just being purposefully obnoxious. Whatever the reason, the dump truck decided he would pull into the left lane and try to pass the parade. Once again i laughed to myself as there was no possible way this dump truck could ever hope to get around the entire line before the lane ran out and at the rate he was going he would be lucky to pass even one car. So the dump truck accelerated and slowly began to pull up beside me as several warnings to the left lane's imminent demise flashed by. When he was finally directly beside me the lanes begin to merge back into one. i had been maintaining a steady speed in line so there was only the normal following distance between me and the car in front of me. One last time i foolishly laughed to myself at the dump truck, thinking how impossible it was for him to believe he could have gotten around the line in such a short distance. i assumed that now that his failure was so obvious he would slow back down and return to his place in line admitting defeat. How naive i was! The lanes were merging, and he just merged right along with them. No turn signal. No asking for permission to move back over. It didn't matter that there was a car in the way, it would move for him. And i did because i had to. i certainly didn't want to. i'd been enjoying a pleasant drive with a good view, and with a dump truck in front of me that would be gone. Besides i felt that i had driven exactly as i should have while the dump truck had not and i didn't want him to get away with being a jerk. There was nothing i could do about it however because he was a dump truck. i could have stood my ground, but i would have just been run over, my car totaled, and myself either dead or taken to court for causing an accident. The dump truck could do whatever it wanted because it was big, and i was powerless.

In the same way that i was furious yet powerless at the dump truck, i am furious yet powerless at the government, school personnel, and cops. i can't vote but i still get taxes and social security sucked out of my pay check without my permission. Teachers are idiots and wrong, but i can't tell them so. Cops are jerks and give out bs traffic tickets, but if you tell them they're wrong things only get worse for you. People tell you to fight for what you believe is right, but there's no gain in it. You have no power. Do you want to eat? Do you want to survive? Then you have to live in society and play by their rules. Sure you can play at power. You can vote for people with your viewpoints, but if they don't get elected, if the majority disagrees with you, you're stuck following them and doing what they think is right. And what can you do about it? Leave? To where? Everywhere is the same or worse. No one is really free.

You know, I definitely agree with the cop thing. I got a speeding ticket for going 48 in a 25, but I swear to Jesus that I was not going that fast. Of course, being 17, I didn't even consider arguing with the the cop or the judge at my hearing because adults are *always* right. They want to make an example of us. We teenagers, we scare the living shit outta people, ya know? LOL

There is a time to live, and a time to die. But now it the time to break it down!
