The Washington Bureau Chief for NBC is gone, Vice President of NBC.
Everybody's mentor in the News died today of a heart attack on the Job. It happened at 1:45 or 2:00 pm EST.
People were openly crying.

President Bush gave his condolences.
Tom Brokaw was quite broken up in the first official announcement from NBC News!
Barack has said he will be missed.
McCain was saddened.

Anyone in politics had to walk through the door of Meet the Press. He has the reputation as the best interviewer ever. Gotcha moments and great questions were his trademark.
Obviously he roasted the folks on his show as he did to candidate Ross Perot in 1992

From New York he came from politics to journalism just as Karl Rove and Mike Huckabee
are trying to do now.
His book about his Father Big Russ was one of the best Father Day's books ever!
the book was on the New York Times bestseller for almost a year.

He loved his family, his church, his politics, his country and yes politicians.
No elitism.
He never acted like he was better than anyone else. In his political career he served both Democrats and Republicans.
This is the guy who set the tone for Presidents and Presidential campaigns.
He just came back from vacation and died.
Arguably he was the best interviewer of all time.

Ironically on Friday the 13th Tim Russert is gone and BIg Russ is still here.
This is HISTORY.
No one can replace this man. There is not many like this left.

He was such a part of my life. Not in any personal way, but just in that Meet the Press has long been a part of my Sunday routine. Think about the number of people he reached and educated in his too short lifetime! It's a sad day.

This is such a sad event. I assume there will be some sort of tribute show in the near future for him. He will certainly be missed.
