Which is better, short posts or long posts?

Tagged:  •    •

To me, a short post would be less than a hundred words and a long post would be almost like a full-blown essay.

I would prefer to read short post. Shorter posts are to the point and are obviously easy to read. Sure, shorter posts sometimes lack evidence, but that can be solved with the use of links to pertinent information. Longer posts are harder to follow and it is easy to get lost. Sometimes I tend to zone out and say forget it, I am not reading this when I encounter a longer post. This is why I believe shorter posts are better than longer posts.

It depends on the topic.

If the topic requires a longer explanation in order to make sense or to have merit, I favor the longer post.

If the topic is a "short but sweet" kind of a thing, I favor the shorter post.

Which types of topics would require a longer explanation and which would not? All topics need to be supported by evidence. However, sometimes there is too much evidence and then the writer tries to bunch too many key points in one post. This brings another question, which is: Is it better to subdivide a big post into multiple posts each relating to one big topic, or to just put it all in one post?

I agree, it depends on the topic and the writing ability of the individual posting.

I like reading short posts, but I'm incapable of getting my points across in only two paragraphs or so. Besides, I really like paragraphs.

Yeah, paragraphs make longer posts a little easier to read. But I have encountered so many huge blocks of text in one post. That is why I decided to make this thread. I wanted to know if I was the only one who did not like long posts. I also wanted to get people thinking about this so next time they realize they wrote a long post, they might think of shortening it and making it easier on the readers.

short because it tend peole are lasy

I agree short posts are better, especially for those of us with a short attention span.

I like short and long posts- sometimes I feel that people are just posting a statement just to say something (perhaps for a particular contest that rewards points based on posting?). I'd like to read something with meaning; if you can get true meaning from a few sentences, great! But, if it means that you need to explain yourself a little further so that I can get more out of your words, then so be it... type on!
