Another Supreme Court Ruling: Guns

The Supreme Court’s have been very busy lately making both stupid and awesome rulings left and right. On Wednesday they made a dumb (my opinion of course) ruling about the death penalty. On Thursday I think they made a good choice on the “right of the people to keep and bear arms”. Up until Thursday, Washington D.C. had a ban on owning guns for any purpose. The supreme court, in a 5-4 vote, decided “that Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting” which is the most amazing announcement for gun owner rights in the history of America, a major announcement if you ask me.

NOTE: Justice Antonin Scalia, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy and Clarence Thomas supported this ruling. Those against it were ‘Justices Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and David Souter’.

D.C. has an enormous crime rate and it always baffled me why the people were not allowed to own a firearms weapon. We all know criminals can get them easy which really puts The People at a big vulnerable risk. What was even more mind boggling then this was how a state could circumvent the constitution so blatantly and nobody bothered to bring it up till recently. 32 years of government suppression and now the District of Columbia has their rights back, will crime go down.

I wonder how this ruling will affect future gun laws. I had feared that we were moving towards taking this privilege/right away and now I am not so sure. I wonder if there are ulterior motives for this ruling or if it is just clear defense of the second amendment. One thing is for sure, business will boom for education and gun related business. Will it affect only the local economy or will it reach the world.

There will be a gap in the know how of people and children education. I wonder if they will use any incidents and accidents from this gap to create a backlash and rip the right from us all.

I do not know, but for now I am glad that some things are going right.
