I want summer scholarships!

Tagged:  •

Ok, so what's the deal with the severe lack of financial aid during the summer semester?  If you aren't dirt poor then you can forget about it!  I'm not dirt poor, but my parents certainly can't afford to shell out the money for summer tuition.  According to the federal government, my parents should be able to pay for every penny of my education - yeah right!  Also, according to the federal government, I couldn't get any financial aid (well, other than a loan, but that almost doesn't count) because I've already "exceeded my limit" of scholarships and/or grants.  I don't understand how that's fair when every penny of my scholarship money has been put towards college - tuition, books, fees, supplies, room, food - all costs that I would not have if it wasn't for college.  So many students are beginning to take more and more summer classes that I think it is past time to face reality and create a summer scholarship/grant fund.

Well, you could get a summer job, or have you resold your books? After each class I resell them and usually make about 60% of what they cost me. Or apply for more schoolarships, everylittle thing helps

Yeah, I'm working on applying for summer jobs now... not much luck yet but I'm still hopeful. I used to resell my books, but now I'm getting to the point in my education where I feel that I will use my textbooks in the future and also, our bookstore gives such a small amount back that it's almost not worth it. Good Ideas though... Thansk!

Sorry, double post, so I will add something
Join Americorp, you work and help people and after about 9 months you get like 2-4k

I know what you mean. The government and academia make little to no allowance for those of us in the middle, whose parents could survive and put us through school at the same time but only barely. I dunno, it's a frustrating process, yeah. I wonder about the technicalities of the student loan process.

Thank you!! I agree - and, something else that is completely frustrating about the loan process at my school is that we don't get the loan money all at once at the beginning of the semester when we need it (part of my loan is going towards living expenses)... we get it in two equal installments. I don't think that the second installment comes until like halfway through the summer!

Getting a job might be a solution, it's true. But it is not always easy to find one. You are right. The gov should give some money for the ones that want to study more (during summer, that is).

I got called for an interview today, so keep your fingers crossed! It's Wednesday morning!
