Judge Scalia Gives Critics The Finger - In Church

Judge Antonin Scalia, the Supreme Court's resident rabid right-wing judge, decided that his church was the appropriate place to point a finger at critics.  No, not that finger - the middle finger.

From UPI.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia startled reporters in Boston just minutes after attending a mass, by flipping a middle finger to his critics.

A Boston Herald reporter asked the 70-year-old conservative Roman Catholic if he faces much questioning over impartiality when it comes to issues separating church and state.

'You know what I say to those people?' Scalia replied, making the obscene gesture and explaining 'That`s Sicilian.'

The 20-year veteran of the high court was caught making the gesture by a photographer with The Pilot, the Archdiocese of Boston`s newspaper.

'Don`t publish that,' Scalia told the photographer, the Herald said.

Imagine, for a second, if John Kerry did this.  Imagine if Howard Dean did this. Or Russ Feingold.  Right-wing bloggers would not waste time condemning them for violating the sanctity of church. For not respecting Christ or God.  For being immoral, atheist liberals.

But in this case...the only places I've seen anything about Scalia's...incident are at liberal blogs like at AmericaBlog. Wait - I'm wrong.  At a super-right wing semi-racist site, someone praised Scalia's actions.

Sickening.

Update:
News reports are saying that it was not the middle finger.

This is incredible. And conservatives wondered why everyone else was so worried about who Bush would appoint to the supreme court. We've got one conservative justice who makes obscene gestures at church, and another conservative justice who watches obscene movies and sexually harrasses his employees.

Who has the higher moral ground here?

Killing babies is NOT higher ground. Give me someone who gives me the "finger" rather than someone who kills my babies.

I think his logic was "If I am the one believing, then I can do whatever I want, I'm going to heaven no matter what I do. The heathens go to hell, by not doing anything but being Godless Liberals."

Sounds a little idiotic right? Yeah, thats what I thought too. I might be right-wing associated, but there is that whole "sanctity of the church" thing, and no one is allowed to hold a double standard like that.

what the hell was he thinking????? and what has our society come to?

While I agree his reaction was tasteless, ironic, and telling, in all fairness, why was the guy being cornered at his church anyway? As much as I dislike the Scalia, he has a personal life too. I'm frankly not that surprised by the reaction.

the man was asked for his opinion and he gave it. ok, the timing nor the location was appropriate. but, your first amendment right is just that, your FIRST. as Thomas Jefferson said, "sir, i might not agree with what you say, but i will defend to the death your right to make say it".

That says much of those chosen to decide the final laws of whether you live or die, with that i now know that we are all condemed

according to the boston herald he didn't give him the middle finger.

Why oh why?
We have killed 40 million babies and call it a "right."
We make a gesture (I saw it...it wasn't the "bird" - althought that would have been just as appropriate) and we condemn the gesture.
Why oh why?

it's because people are stupid... and liberals are hypocrites... add those two together and you get this kind of knee-jerk moronic reaction

who you calling racist?

I think he had every right to flip those reporters off. He's attending mass and some dick reporter has the balls to ask him what he thinks about seperation of church and state? I'd do the same thing if I were religiously affiliated, in a high government position, and attending mass.
