Cancer Ignorance

Yesterday, at lunch, one of my peers said "Why would I have cancer? I'd only be 28 years old."

Oh my. What a shock. I hope that other people out there do not think that cancer only happens to older people. IT DOESN'T. I have seen so innocent kids succumb to this horrible disease. And the fact that there are people out there that don't think that young people get cancer completely unnerves me.

Abby. Alexia. Sofia. Chloe. Scott. Kyle. Penelope. All kids that have fought cancer. Abby's gone, Alexia's gone, Penelope's gone. Kyle was in remission, but relapsed and is currently fighting. Sofia is slowly winning her battle, but will soon be gone. Scott is the only one of these children who is not currently fighting for his life or no longer with us.

I love that, no matter the outcome, their family always refers to it as winning. If they go to heaven, they have won their battle with cancer. And, if they enter remission, they have won their battle with cancer. Cancer does not win. Cancer will never win.

Go volunteer. Go do research. Donate money or toys to the pediatrics unit at the hospital. Help to spread awareness about these kids. Do it for Abby. Do it for Alexia. Do it for Sofia, Chloe, Scott, Kyle, Penelope, and so many others. Do it because they deserve it.

The last one, I deleted, because I posted that one at 2 in the morning, so I wanted to post these when more people would see them.
