"I MOVED UP OUT OF THE HOOD...SO I AIN'T HOOD NOW?"

I used to be a pothead. Used to love to hang out with my friends, cause they smoked pot too. Back then our only concern was staying cute. Impressing the peole around us with the latest Jordans, the cutest jeans, and the flyest hairstyles. When I go back home after being away for a year, I bet they'll probably think I'm crazy for telling them what I'm about to tell you.
I start college in less than two months. I have most of my money together, but I ain't got all of it yet. I'm fighting for scholarships. So I can't hang out with you, I don't party like a rockstar anymore, I ain't down for smoking weed. I haven't smoked weed in a year. I don't like to date, don't have time for guys, and I would prefer to be alone. All of this, it's what I used to be. Today, it ain't me.
I don't want them to think I'm trying to twist my nose up. But it's called change. Without it, things seem to stay the same. I've seen what that does to your life. Everything feels the same, but the years seem to fly by without waiting for us to get it all together. I don't want life to leave me behind. I wanna make it.
Excuse me for changing....but I don't think I have a choice. Not if I want to fulfill my dreams.

Way to go! This is a good example of personal progress that we all have to go through.

It sounds like you're taking quite a few steps towards making a good future for yourself! If your friends are turning their backs on you because of it, maybe they aren't truly friends. Your friends should help to encourage you to follow your dreams, not snub you for it. And who knows, maybe the example you're setting will benefit your friends in the future.

I agree. Peer pressure goes both ways. If you can pressure them more than they pressure you, you can pull them your way instead. Once a few of them join you on the good side, the rest will be easier to convert.

CHANGE IS GOOD...WHETHER YOU ARE A CRIMINAL OR CHRISTIAN, IF YOU ARE MAKING ANY CHANGE THAT'S FOR THE POSITIVE, IT IS TO BE CONSIDERED A GOOD THING. IF ANYONE OBJECTS TO IT, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE WHO CALL THEMSELVES FRIENDS, ARE TO BE EXITED FROM YOUR LIFE. POSITIVE PROGRESSION IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH NEGATIVE INFORMATION!

When you get to college, you'll find people with more on their minds than weed and boys. There will be plenty who only think about weed and boys, but they won't get very good grades, so what's the point of them being in college?

You don't have to justify yourself or your goals to anyone. You go do what you need to do and feel good about your plans! A little work now will set you up for a much more fun life later. Your pot smoking friends will still be struggling to make ends meet when you are established in a career. Good luck and stick with it!
