Bush's "balanced" budget

Enigma's picture

Bush sure has some balls. With all of his rosy talk about how great America was during his State of the Union, he's doing a fine job screwing it up even more. Bush has proposed his new budget plan that has made most Democrats balk. Standing at a whopping $2.9 trillion, it towers over last year's $2.77 trillion. Bush's newest budget plan has at $50 billion hike in military spending, and a $12 billion cut in what would otherwise go to aid the impoverished in America. Among the programs he's torpedoing: Head Start for preschool children; the Corporation for Public Broadcasting; vouchers that provide housing for low-income families; funding to community policing, troubled juveniles, and abused women; funding to anti-drug activities in South America; as well as medicare and medicaid programs for the poor and elderly. Even with all of those "unecessary" programs being cut, he's still about $250 million in the hole. That's $250 million that future generations will have to pay off.

You might be thinking, "hey, he's cutting those programs to bring down spending to pay off the debt". Why the hell would Bush pay off the national debt? It's already risen to much, that Jefferson's probably nauseous from all the spinning he's doing. Since Bush took office, the National Debt has risen an impressive $2,900,097,651,767.06. That's almost $1.3 billion a day. Adding this on to the previous debt, we've reached an $8.7 trillion total. Can Bush even count that high?

Anyway, Bush upped the spending on the war to $245 billion for 2008. With all of the money we spent on the war, we could've solved half the problems plauging our country, like foreign oil dependence or nationalized healthcare. Not only that, but we could've funded cures for AIDS, Cancer, or prevent diseases like Malaria, Ebola or TB.

To top this all off, Bush has asked congress to extend his tax cuts by enacting a $1.9 trillion tax in 2009, well after he leaves office. Great idea. Run the country into the ground, and leave a mess for the next guy to fix. Already, the US Dollar is falling against the Euro. OPEC has opted to sell a good portion of its dollars off in return for Euros. You know what that means? People might actually buy US made items because they become so cheap.

Someone needs to remove his rose glasses. Jeez.

That is all.

What do you expect when you are in a war? I garuntee that if you look up the money racked up in every war it would be just about equal(including inflation and the value of money factors).

I'm saying that the war could be run better. For example, keep track of funds you give to the Iraqis. So far, we've lost track of $12 billion.

What else would they do with that money? Give it to the citizens? Yea right.

There are plenty of farmers like myself that could use some more government money but that will never happen. All the extra money goes into the politicians pockets. They don't care about the citizens of America.

I wholeheartedly agree with that statement (with the current administartion). However, there are politicians out there that actually do care about Americans, although they are far and few.

I realize that but there are not enough to actually do anything.
