Ok I was thinking... if America is so democratic, can we choose our own candidates for this year's election? I mean, who decides that these guys make it and your Average Joe can't run. The reason... money!
They say that this is the first presidential race where a candidate used a billion dollars in funding. Now I don't know how reliable that figure is cuz I couldn't find that article for you guys but the truth behind it remains the same. You must be RICH to run for president! Not just rich... STINKING RICH! It's getting more and more expensive to hold a public office nowadays. I sincerely don't like that. Not because I don't have a lot of money(I don't! You can donate though...=P). If I had a lot of money it would still bother me because it goes against the idea of democracy. Democracy says that everyone should be able to run and be elected.
Now I understand that there are feasable costs involved in a campaign and that somebody has to pay them, but there should be some way to allow people who don't have a lot of money to run. I think it should almost be like a nationwide competition. No political parties involved. If you want to run for president, you start by winning your county's vote, then you pass on and you have to win the state's vote, then, if you make it that far, you're eligible to run in the national competition. I don't know, I'd have to think it out more thoroughly but the idea remains. If your community votes for you then you should be able to advance right. So you represent them. Then if you win the state's vote, you now represent them. Then you can have different sectors in the U.S. Have the state's kind of divide into sectors and now you have to win that vote. Then you keep going. Perhaps, with all of the technology we have nowadays, it might be able to take each individual vote that is cast and compile them so you have the full amount of votes in the entire country. As it is right now, the electoral college is unfair to voters. It should be the peoples choice. Ok ok, here's an example of what I'm talking about. Let's say that in the state of California there are 2 million people(there's more ok...). 1.5 million of them vote for Joe in the election. 0.5 million of them vote for Bob. Unfortunately for everyone who voted for Bob, all of the state's vote's in the electoral college now go to Joe. That's 0.5 million votes that are effectively redirected and added to Joe's votes. Can you say NOT FAIR???
Ok ok, to bring this to a close, I submit to you the idea that, if we are such a democratic society, can we not change who the candidates are for this upcoming election? And what's more, let's change the requirements for becoming president and make it whover gets the most votes. In that case... why not vote for me?
If you read this whole post then you are THE AMAZINGNESS and I stand in awe of your brilliant intellect =P
