911 What IS Your Emegency- and Where Exactly Are You? Congress on 911

Rep. john Shimkus is fighting in congress to get funding that has been promised for a long time for enhanced 911 services for people who use cell phones. Of course this is being used right now on Disney phones. They advertise that you can know where your children are.
On 7-25-07 Rep. Rodney Frelinghaysen promised that the proceeds from a Spectrum Auction in the distant future would partially fund this project. I have some experience with this, on a car trip I ran out of gas and tried calling every number I knew to find out where I was including 911. I got nowhere; I had to walk 5 miles to get a can of gas at a gas station; because I could not call a tow truck and tell them where to find me. There were no road signs and no mile markers. I could have been in Leningrad for all I knew.
Now my boyfriend bought a Garmin so we would know where we are at all times. That’s a GPS map system. IT’s almost impossible to get lost with this system. OF course if you want to go to New York from MI it takes you though Canada on the QED. (The problem with that is you need a passport to get into Canada now).
I believe that 911 should be funded, especially enhanced 911 because 911 is the last hope of people who need help. If I am ever overturned on the highway, eg The movie “Are you dead yet” you know the movie where the girl doesn’t get on the highway and so she doesn’t die? Well if I get on that highway I want emergency services there so that I get help.
Of course as they were saying in congress that cutting funding from needed programs like the census is really unsuitable to the situation we are in as a country. With the war going on we have to be economical with our budget.
Please write you congressman on this important subject.
Unless of course you believe the population needs to be reduced by one- _you_ next time you need 911 services.
