A man's mind

"I dare do all that may become a man; who dares do more is none." This quote from Macbeth has always intrigued me. I draw new conclusions from it every time that I read it. It seems that it is a reaction to Lady Macbeth calling him a coward, belittling his manhood. He seems to be saying two things about himself. He says that he will do anything to become a man. I believe that he is speaking of the man that Lady Macbeth expects him to be, and he also says that one who tries to be more than the man that he is meant to be is not a man at all. He feels that killing Duncan to fulfill the witches' prophecy is not a manly action.
After Banquo and Macbeth's encounter with the witches Macbeth changed. He began to entertain thoughts of Duncan's death. This is important because most people view Lady Macbeth as the villain and Macbeth as her victim. This is wrong. Lady Macbeth acts as a catalyst yes, but Macbeth had been vacillating on the idea even before speaking to Lady Macbeth about it.
What does all of this analytical babble mean to the corruption of man's mind? As humans we covet that which we do not possess. We conspire to get ahead. But we aren't inherently evil or corrupt. Since medieval times; wealth, power, land, and titles have driven our aspirations and ambition. Just like Macbeth was driven by his ambitions placed in his head by the witches, we are pushed by promises of wealth, fame, and fortune. Though we may not murder to get that full time position we will just as easily step on another to get that gold vest.
Now Lady Macbeth, whom does she represent? Society of course. Just like Lady Macbeth guided Macbeth's hands in the murder society takes our minds and conforms them to travel an over trodden path.
If we are to escape the clutches of our desires and find paradise in our passions we must cast away envy and embrace hope. I dare do all to become a new man and he who doesn't is nothing.

I love this book!!! I actually wrote my best paper on this book. I love the messages and morals that I get from it. And I agree, everytime I read this book I take something new away from it. The writing so complex.
