Everyone is making a big deal out of Obama being (partially) black and Clinton being a woman. What an exciting time to be alive and witnessing politics! You know what would be a whole lot more controversial and a whole lot more exciting? I would like to see someone who is gay run for president.

This topic has been wrung dry and I apologize. i just need to get my thoughts out.

Our country is filled with hypocrites. First we say that everyone is free and equal—able to pursue life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness without restrictions. Then we refuse people rights. (The list here is endless. We've enslaved people. We've judged. We've essentially stripped groups of their civil liberties for as long as the country has been up and running). Tell me. How is being gay wrong? Why should they be slighted?

I am a Christian. I have heard the "marriage is something special between a man and a woman" argument. It's old news. Gay rights is perhaps the one things I really struggle with as a Christian. Some of my best friends are gay. Why can't they be seen as equals? If God is LOVE (which the Bible teaches) and he created each and every one of us (I believe that people are born gay for the most part...please correct me if I'm wrong) and LOVES each and every one of us, why are gays not allowed to demonstrate their love? IF love is a gift from God, why can't gay people experience the gift without being scorned at? Why is marriage just for a man and a woman? Is it not enough that people LOVE one another? (Love seems so hard to find nowadays, why not celebrate it?)

I have a friend who tried to explain and convert me to Christian views of Gay marriage etc. (She failed). She said that gay people have an "extra temptation" in that they should not experience sex or marriage etc. etc. This seems contradictory to me. I think God wants us to experience love and to share it.

Someone who has suffered persecution and inequality is much less likely to infringe on the rights of others. YES, black people and women have suffered—have been persecuted. I think it is safe to say that the gay community continues to suffer.

I think that a gay individual in office would give the country a much more balanced perspective. Laws that are truly encompassing of our notion of “equality” would be produced and passed.
