Daisy Duke Ain't Got Nothing On Me

I feel like a real live farm girl. The only thing missing are some Daisy Dukes… well, okay actually I'd be more likely to wear overalls and have grass hanging out of my mouth.

Of all our attempts to be more environmentally friendly, the thing I'm most proud of is our use of "grey water." In these dry times, it would be a shame to let our herbs die, although technically I think that plants grown for food are exempt from watering restrictions.

The use of grey water is a time-honored tradition of country folk. Basically, the idea is to use bath and dish water to irrigate plants. So, every morning I dip my bath water into a 5 gallon bucket and tote it outside. It usually takes two or three trips, but you should see me slinging that bucket around the herb garden. Then I go back in the house to take the raw garbage out to the compost bin. Stir it up with a stick. Yep. I'm a farm girl, 'cause I got chores.

I hear tell that it's even possible to set up an entire grey water system! All water draining from the tub and kitchen goes into an underground holding tank. Then you can spray your lawn, etc. with a hose connected to it. Only problem with that idea is you have no excuse to mop your forehead with red bandana afterwards.
