Our government and the Department of Agriculture are using cities as large-scale testing grounds for dangerous pesticides and other chemicals. These tests are particularly worrisome given that the populations targeted are not warned (though they are apparently justified in that because the sprayings take place at night).
Alex Jones' website Infowars reposted a San Francisco Chronicle article with some additional commentary (view the link here: http://www.infowars.com/?p=282). I found this particularly frightening to read because I grew up in this section of the country. Yes, agriculture forms a significant source of revenue for the people that live in certain areas of California, but I doubt the apple moth is invading San Francisco, Tiberon, and other wealthy cities who have nary an orchard in sight for miles. Why subject those cities' citizens to these toxic estrogen bombs? Reports from preliminary areas where the pesticides were sprayed turn up hundreds of cases of shortness of breath, throat and eye irritation, coughing, and asthmatic symptoms in previously healthy individuals. Surely there is a more effective way to eradicate these moths without compromising the safety of millions of people! The officials behind these sprays even acknowledge that no controlled testing or research was done before okaying the plan, and it is unknown what side effects mass distribution of the chemicals will cause. Plans are still in place to blanket the entire Bay Area with the crap this summer.
I'm reminded of a night this previous summer when I had a late shift at work and found myself driving home around 9:30PM. A truck swung around the corner two blocks from my house spraying a fine mist in its wake from a large apparatus on the back of the truck. I learned the following day that the chemical, called Anvil, is being blanketed over the city each year to prevent West Nile Virus. The CDC has produced studies declaring that spraying methods are virtually ineffective in the goal to eradicate mosquito populations and can potentially cause far more harm than good (including killing populations of bees, birds, aquatic animals, and the natural insect predetors of mosquitoes). In low doses Anvil cause respiratory irritation, and in higher doses, can initiate neurological damage. It is incredibly risky to dose pregnant women, children, and the elderly. It increases cancer risk of several different types. There is no way to justify the blanket spraying of chemicals upon any population, especially when the desired results of the pesticide are 25% effective at BEST.
I dug up a page on Anvil from a Chicago citizen's group working to ban the spraying in our neighborhoods: http://www.beyondtoday.org/anvil.htm . San Franciscans would be wise to follow their example and demand that their lives and the health of their families and children not be put into jeopardy for the sake of killing off a few moths (which aren't even a PROBLEM yet; it is admittedly a preventative measure ONLY). I plan to tell my family in San Francisco about these chemical attacks so that they can contact the appropriate representatives and make it known that this is an awful program with no legitimate benefit to outweigh the myriad risks to public health.
In a future where one in three people gets cancer, girls chock-full of hormones from milk and estrogen from pesticides get their periods at age 8 and breast cancer by 25, babies are born with leukemia, and the population still doesn't demand accountability from their governments who are largely responsible for the mass poisoning of our cities and towns, I will hang my head and receive my chemo treatments in silence, for it was large-scale silence that brought us to this point. PLEASE research what our government is authorizing for our air. Our food supplies. Our water supply. Fluoride, hormones, synthetic estrogen, nitrates, radiation. I'll explore the risks of fluoride more in a new post. For now, keep yourself safe and do what you can to expose the truth about what you find to be evil in this world.

This is exactly why I get so upset every morning I wake up. People are ignorant and choose to ignore the sanctity of their vote! How many people would okay a government to spray pesticides over their houses if there was conclusive evidence of health issues!?
Exactly. Every day, my boyfriend and I get up and do research at every spare moment. We attend various activist group meetings hoping to gain new information and spread the information we've gathered. Street action, multiple blogs, talking to our family and friends about what we're discovering...it's an exhausting, uphill battle. Sometimes I feel like people won't wake up until we're in a police state, herded into ghettos while Big Brother watches us suffer. These public health issues are mind-boggling. In the Alex Jones link, there's a mention of the fact that the Governator never would have agreed to these sprayings had they been centered over HIS house. So true. Just like the warmongering politicos who have the money and clout to get their kids out of the armed service, just like their rich daddies did for them in Vietnam (cough, cough, BUSH, cough, cough).
