Schip Recipient & the Attacks of the Right Wing Republicans

political_avenger's picture

It's amazing that the right wing Republicans are attacking and spreading false information about this innocent child. There is no limit to their incredible distortions. The president denies children health care and claims he's doing it for the poor children because of a small amount of middle class receiving benefits. He claims its not fair (I guess he forgot about New Orleans), What happened their mister president? He claims the SCHIP program is leading to a government run health care system and that's unacceptable. Okay mister president, so paying private insurance companies triple the cost for less coverage, benefits us.

Right, a husband and wife making a combined gross income of $60,000 a year with 2 children can afford to pay between $6500 to $11,000 a year for a family plan. Let's see, they have to pay for mortgage or a rental home which in Florida for a 1 bedroom apartment will rent for minimum $1000, add a car payment or maybe 2 while paying almost $3.00 per gallon for gas. Don't forgot to include food, clothes, Electricity, car insurance, rental or mortgage insurance and property taxes. It might just be a little too much for the average family. Here in Florida insurance has tripled, property taxes have tripled and because we are a right to work state, many of us do not have benefits. And if you were not aware, foreclosures have gone up 617% in Miami Dade & Broward County this year. 1 out of every 5 homes for sale in South Florida are in process of foreclosure.  Mister president you need to here the voices of the peoples god, not the one you claim speaks to you. Right Wingers stand for no moral values. Hypocrites.

UNDER THE RADAR

ETHICS -- RIGHT WING LAUNCHES BASELESS SMEAR CAMPAIGN AGAINST 12-YEAR OLD SCHIP RECIPIENT: Two weeks ago, the Democratic radio address was delivered by a 12-year old Graeme Frost, who was involved in a severe car accident three years ago and received access to medical care because of the Children's Health Insurance ProgramFollowing the speech, conservatives began launching baseless attacks on Graeme and his family. A poster at Free Republic asserted that Graeme and his sister Gemma attend wealthy schools that cost "nearly $40,000 per year for tuition" and live in a well-off home. The smear attack against Graeme has also taken firm hold in the right-wing blogosphere. The National Review, Michelle Malkin, Wizbang, Powerline, and the Weekly Standard blog have all launched assaults on the Frost family. The story is slowly working its way into traditional media outlets as well. Here are the facts the right wing distorted in order to attack Graeme:  First, Graeme has a scholarship to a private school. The school costs $15K a year, but the family only pays $500 a year. Second, the Frosts bought their "lavish house" 16 years ago for $55,000 at a time when the neighborhood was less safe. And finally, the Frosts make $45,000 combined and over the past few years they have made no more than $50,000 combined. Since the address, right wing bloggers have been harassing the Frosts, repeatedly calling their home to get information about their private lives.

People should stop buying houses and cars they can't afford. Maybe that's part of the problem contributing to debt and foreclosure, did you ever think of that?

Put your health care first, instead of expecting others to pay for it for you after you go bankrupt. Keeping up with the Jones' is out of style.

What kind of family buys a house that is so expensive that they can't afford decent healthcare?

Rent an apartment and have good health insurance.

I'd think that'd be a no brainer... (assuming there is some connection between forclosures and not having insurance)

This current housing problem is because companies pushed ARMs.... and suckered people into believing that they were a good idea.

Here's a little history on the ARM. They used to not exist. For a while, banks weren't able to make much money on loans. To be competitive, banks had to issuer lower and lower interest rates on loans... They didn't like this, so they came up with an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM)

Now, the interest rates were (and basically still are) on the lower end of where it's been during the last few decades. If the rate adjusts, which way is it going to go? (the class answered: "Up").

Why, then, would you get a loan for your home, KNOWING that at some random point, the company can just charge you more money.... just because?

People who didn't think about that, who were instead inticed by the greed of owning more home than their income could allow, bought homes MUCH bigger than they could afford, and are now paying for it.

That ALOT of people did something stupid is, in no way, the fault of the President. (the same can be applied to those in New Orleans, since you referenced it: When given 3 days to evacuate by the City, when they were first asked to, why didn't the poor people leave? How far could you walk in 3 days? I could maybe get 30 miles away... then I wouldn't be stuck on an overpass surrounded by floodwaters.)

None of that, of course, has to do with the SCHIP program, which is the precursor to forcing us to pay for other people's healthcare. Don't trust the government to be a better steward of YOUR money than you are. They have never proven to be so.

Weird how the first two replies are like preprogrammed responses of the right wing smear machine, they skimmed enough of the post to get the idea that was what the rest of the right was doing and dutifully echoed what their Replicon masters programmed them to echo.

No, I read the second part. I just thought it was a pointless single example taken out of context, so I choose not to respond. I could come up with dozens just like it from the other angle, but that would be hitting below the belt, now wouldn't it?

On the other hand... vegetarians and vegans who don't respond to a well-written (if I do say so myself) well-supported (this does speak for itself) article about how meat does not cause cancer, or heart disease, or make a person less healthy than a person who does not heat meat after dozens of articles that claim differently... now that's a story...

Great... let's make a personal attack because we can't support our own opinions with logic or legitimate sources! Good job! *thumbs up*

I'm not a Republican. Or a Democrat. I make my choices without party affiliation or responsibility because I'm an independent mind able to think for myself.

Grow up.

I find it interesting that whenever a conservative voice tries to speak a bit of truth and common sense reason, those on the left do nothing but resort to personal attacks.

Personal attacks, slurs and typing in all caps (yelling) over the internet are the sign of someone with no real way to defend what they say.

political_avenger's picture

Again, everytime someone has an opinion about RIGHT WING Republican's disgusting attacks, there's always some out there to defend them blindly no matter what. Where is the fiscal conservatism. Oh that's right, that doesn't exist anymore. We give out corporate well fare wasting BILLIONS instead of programs helping the people of this country. Neo Conservatives don't believe in conservatism, just ask Bruce Bartlett an ex-fan of Bush.

Republicans need to ask themselves are they really voting for conservatism or just voting for a party affiliation. I know the truth hurts, but if you search for the truth, it will find you.

Do you support this country? Then you better start supporting "corporate America", because without it, there is no United States. If you answered no to my original question, then what the heck are you doing living here, reaping the benefits of this great nation, in the first place? Move to China, and write me back about how great it is.

Moving on... I'm really glad you're willing to decide for me where my money is best spent. Clearly I'm not intelligent enough to determine that for myself.

I am getting really sick and tired of people who say they are against party affiliation but are clearly just as biased as those they accuse.

Fr33 2 b's picture

That is the exact sentiment which gets imposed over top of the very objective of being a person of a nation, which I as person of conscience emphatically reject.

On the subject of persons, a good bit of history is this- While the legislators were doing the right thing of granting persons of color the rights of personhood, imposers of the sentiment that corporations are what make the United States great used the equal rights legislation to grant corporations personhood. A corporation is legally obligated to remain profitable which leaves it at odds and often completely contrary to the notion of being a “person” of conscience.

I agree with you on some grounds. Corporations are sticky entities. There should be some in-between leaning towards more regulation and less "personage" because they clearly can't maintain a conscious and be expected to keep profits on the foreground at the same time. On the other hand, companies can somewhat increase their profits by increasing "good will" (Anheuser-Busch is a good example of this), so it's sort of an interesting incentive to be a conscientious entity. Once again, don't forget the power of consumer choice... make educated decisions, and you can put the less responsible companies out of their misery.

Fr33 2 b's picture

Public relations is public relations and that is all geared towards increasing profitability For which a minute portion of the profit margin is alloted. I would go so far as to say that corporations create an anti-conscience. If the CEO of Anheuser-Busch woke up one morning and decided every human life was priceless and tried to sign over the corporation to the one surviving member of a family of twenty who was killed by a drunk driver who ran into their Mini Cooper he could never do it. In fact he would be bound by law to contest any legal proceedings before reparations could be made.

You clearly know nothing about Anheuser-Busch.

Just because they are an alcohol company, does not mean they cannot create good will.

Good one. My sentiments exactly.

The truth is corporate America ( Haliburton, Verizon, GM, Ford, Exxon, Chevron, Lock Heed Martin, Black water, blah, blah, blah many other companies) are breaking my bank account. They receive tax cuts which I have to make up for, they get welfare if business is not doing what they projected. They get government contracts which we pay for and to add. The biggest insult is when they open a P.o. box in the bahamas so they don't have to pay taxes. They out source our jobs, with massive layoffs here which has been a way of life for most corporations for the last 7 years. I laugh when calling a customer service line for help on a product or a purchase. Most of the time the person on the other side is from India or Jamaica. Trust me I'm use corporate America but it pisses me off when they take my money for their benefit.

Fr33 2 b's picture

What is with some people seeming to have a moral obligation to tout the status quo? It's freakin' ridiculous. If you ask me I'd say that their ill founded position creates an alarm of doubt that triggers a denial response which has them assert that greatness is what they have been programmed to believe is greatness which in turn activates pleasure centers in their brains as they reach a vapid mind state and they rest comfortably assured that they won't have to think for themselves. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

The hardest part is that the system is owned by and I also mean that as degraded by people with no real connection to the rest of the population. About three years ago I came across a definition of sociopathism as characterized by a person that sees other people as means to benefit themselves. That is one characteristic of the sociopath left out in the movie the corporation. Which features some of my modern day heroes, namely Naomi Klien and Noam Chomsky.

Funny, I call that a "liberal".

That is so clever! You took my words of negative connotation and said that was what I was by bashing the entity that what is to be blamed for all ills on earth which you know I associate with and all the while sucking up to status quo! Bravo!!

so I could kill people who were against Schip over and over and they's still be alive
I support it-- It got me braces, glasses and xrays when there was a potential threat that I might have tb or some other disease

MY dad makes less than 21, 000-- when he came to the US, he did not know or think about things such as the fact that his degree is worthless in the US (he is a pharmacist) He could not afford to go to school here so of course he just worked in minimum wage jobs and now he makes a little more but we barely pull through with bills and to have health care for his kids -- my family is so grateful

BEFORE anyone says go back where you came from (I've heard that from a few people, so I just have to mention it- don't take offense to it)--Pakistan and other third world countries lack in hospitals and equipment...like really lack in it and education too so please understand where I am coming from--OH my family is citizens of the US now and we ahve ALWAYS paid our taxes.
