So this is my first post on this blog. I've also got myspace and blogspot, under the same screen name. I will probably mostly be duplicating posts here as this will not be my main blog... For two reasons:
1.) I'm firmly ensconced at blogspot. I wish that I could automatically duplicate my posts here, but I haven't found that option if it exists.
2.) I write about way more than just politics and progressive values... I have hobbies! Which really, when you get down to it, have a lot to do with my progressive values, but a lot of other people (like the people who run the scholarship) might not think so...
I also think that the 100 word minimum here is kinda stupid, guys... People should be able to write whatever they want in as few words as they want on their own blog... Another reason to stick with blogspot. I once wrote a post there that only said, "Random: I really like banana pudding," 'cause it's my blog and I write whatever I'm thinking, popular, relevant to the greater world or not, damn it.
So why blog here? For the scholarship. Nothing more, nothing less. And to get more people reading my thoughts on things. That would be nice. My other blog, while it gets foot-traffic... or "mouse-traffic" I suppose would be more accurate... very few people comment on anything... Not sure why... I may intimidate them, or they may just agree so much that they have nothing to say.

How do you work blogspot? My friend had one in D.C. I got myspace but blog spot seems more personal
Blogspot is pretty easy to work. You go to blogger.com, sign-up for an account... And as far as I remember (because it's been more than a year since I got my account), then you get to pick a template for your blog. Then you just follow their instructions to post. There are tutorials I think and also faq.s and tech support that is pretty responsive. To me, it was really user friendly, more so than other blog sites that I had tried before. And I like it a lot better than myspace because there are far less high-schoolers creeping about.

thanks that helped a lot. what does facere quod in se est mean? Also, who did your mom dance for?
My mom never danced professionally, though she was a model for Danskins in the late 1970s. Here's one of her modeling photos: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y296/susannaheanes/1979_danskin10.jpg . She minored in dance in college and she danced at a "Fame"-like dance school in Chicago during high school. She also taught dance in several small schools around the South. Now, she works for herself, does historical reenacting, and raises my younger siblings. Much healthier past-times really.
"Facere quod in se est" means "To do what is in oneself [to do]." I like to take it as a personal motto. Every time I come to something... whether it be something as mundane as doing the dishes so no one else has to do it simply because I have the time, or something more complicated like bring attention to injustices, I always say, "Can I do something about that?" Yes, I can, and so I do.

Your mom was beautiful. I bet she looks lovely when she dances. My favorite sayoing is kind of controversial. but i love it. It says "Imitation is Suicide." and I say So have you jumped, yet? How did your mom become a Danskins model. I went to 'Fame" like school in 9th and 10th grade but I moved to Jonesboro. Jonesboro high doesnt have it though. I still dnace everyday on the side. But, I ma in the orchestra there and they are really good.
"Imitation is suicide." I like that! It certainly kills creativity if nothing else.
Thank you! ;D Yeah, she was really pretty. She still is. She doesn't dance anymore though. It's just better for her to not go there because then she gets back into the mindset that her body isn't what it should be for a "proper ballet dancer" and she runs the risk of relapsing into her eating disorder. Plus, she's in her mid-40s now and the body doesn't like the abuse at that age. I don't know how she became a model for Danskins. I never thought to ask...

they have the 100 word minimum so that people don't just post pointless things for points.
I figured as much, but I still find it silly if this site is supposed to be about real blogs...

Well think about that. How much can you really say in less than a hundred words about something meaningful?
It isn't hard to hit 100 words, not for me anyway. :p I'm already over 1/4 of the way to that limit with just this comment.
Didn't say that I thought the posts should have to be meaningful... This is just a difference of opinion. I think there shouldn't be a "meaningful post content" requirement and others think there should. This requirement is one reason I prefer blogspot.
Progressive U isn't really a blog service imo. It's more of a slightly personalized message board. Like a sci-fi convention with many different booths which are all open to those who pay the entry fee and all containing similar things rather than houses or apartments where people can absolutely individualize everything as they see fit and limit or not who can comment, how, etc. Because with most other services (at least the ones I've tried out), you can customize your blog, have a bio, a photo, your own look, set privacy options, and you can post whatever you want, about whatever you want. Progressive U has limits and requirements, etc. on the blogger, hoops that the blogger must jump through, rather than the blogger's audience.
I'm only on here to rack up points for the scholarship 'cause I could really use that cash. I have lots of studying to do and little money to pay for it with.
And so, yeah, the minimum word requirement is Progressive U's prerogative and that's fine. I get it. I get why they have it in place. I just think that because of it, and the generic same-ness of everything on the site, that Progressive U is not a real blog service... it's a message board with an unusual format.

no no..i wasnt saying you said that. -That is what this site is for though. I am here for the same reason as you-honestly-if it wasn't for this contest, I would have quit this site a week after i started, the people on it are to closed minded and don't like seeing a different point of view.
But that is the difference in this site and blogspot, this site is for people that actually care about issues. Not just a daily ..well..blog. lol. Maybe you are right-in the sense that it is just like a big message board.
Cool...

I think the reason why most people are on here is for the scholarship. what is everyones point totals so far?
