American Obession: Sex?

So you want to watch television. Flipping through the channels, you find something to watch. A fiction show about detectives finding missing people is on, so slightly intrigued, you watch on. However, the show begins to be less about finding this poor missing person to two of the detectives ending up at one of the others' apartments going at it. Wait, wasn't it supposed to be a show on a missing person?

Frankly, it seems that America--or the producers--has some kind of obsession with sex.

You see it everywhere! Not even movies for kids are spared half the time! There always has to be some sort of sexual innuendo thrown into children's movies for the sole purpose for it to go over the child's head and make the parent chuckle. Are parents that self-centered that they cannot bring their child to a movie without having to be secretly "entertained"?

I'm tired of seeing sex and sexual innuendos all over the place and thrown in at every chance they possibly can in movies, shows, and commercials. Now, I'm seventeen-years-old, and do find many sexual jokes funny, but come on! Seeing it everywhere simply numbs people to the humor or any other response they may get. It gets boring after a while, and after it gets boring, it gets annoying.

I know that sex is important, yes; but it shouldn't be made into our main, everyday life! Sure, that's how the species continues, but we shouldn't be having to see our species copulate in every show, movie, advertisement, and anything else they can think to stick some sexy model or suggestive pose on.

Nickelodeon even had a special on last night teaching children how to date! Of course, I do give them that they were teaching some gentlemanly traits that most boy seem to have forgotten over generations, but nonetheless, you would have never seen this kind of thing before sex became a fad.

That's what sex has become. A fad!

Its "cool" to have sex, "cool" to have sex in shows. Let me tell you, its not as cool as they may think or hope. Whenever I hear people talking about how they had sex, its annoying and unneeded information. Many people, teenaged and older, would agree with me--I know many who do agree with me. The people in my school that advertise that they have sex are labeled 'slut'. Not just by the "uncool" people. No, they are labeled a 'slut' or a 'player' by almost everyone. They may not stop having the friends they do, but they will be known as a 'slut' and probably be considered for an easy lay.

America has seemed to have become utterly obsessed with sex ever since the 50s. Its disgusting, and utterly childish. I frankly wish it could go back to the time that talking of sex was taboo and only to be done in a private setting--not some exotic place where you could be found.

I agree to the point of going back to the 50s. I need the freedom to do what i want and not be a house wife but Preach On!
As a teenager, i am sick of the sex all over the place. my friends and I make jokes all the time but it does get annoying after a while. I agree. wait i said that.

The problem with this is the fact that it still IS taboo. The reason people are so uptight and relaxed with this subject at the same time is because many people are sick of it being thrown in their face, and many people are sick of it being ignored.

What this kind of media attention to sex is, is very much like saying "darnit" or "frick" in place of the real profanity. If you want your child to swear, just say the fake words a lot, and they'll catch on quickly.

Rather than ignoring the subject, if you actually want it to die down, start realizing that bodies and sex are something to be COMFORTABLE about. If people weren't so shaken by the sight of a breast, then it wouldn't be something people could advertise as forbidden. The way to solve problems is to face them, not ignore them.

Still, this kind of free showing of bodies and sexual ideas is what is making many people uncomfortable about their bodies! Seeing celebrities with "perfect" bodies is what makes both males and females alike feel like they need to acquire bodies like that and that they need to look sexy to be appreciated and popular.

Aside from that, it is highly annoying to have sex constantly thrown in your face. It brings down the importance of sex. It makes it just seem that sex is not something to share with a loved one and to make a child, but as something that you do to any person and for gratification. Besides, what value does it add to children's movies?

I started cursing as a child because my mother was cursing at constant and I wasn't allowed to until I was 18. She made it seem like it was "okay" to swear all of the time. It wasn't because she would say "frick" or any "fake" word of that nature. It was because she said things like "fuck," "shit," and other of the four-letter wonders.
