Tired of the World’s Opinion.
Have you ever listened to the ranting of world leaders concerning the failings of the United States? How evil and worthless we are, while never caring about anyone but ourselves? It wasn’t that long ago, that a United Nations representative vented at the United States that we were cheap and stingy, and that we needed to give more money to international relief organizations for many trouble-spots throughout the globe. This discussion isn’t about the willingness, or ability of the United States to give aid to anyone, but in a unique positioning paper, which I can honestly say will never happen… it’s based solely on a ‘what-if’…
What if the United States pulled its troops from the Middle East completely? No, I’m not just talking about Iraq, but also Israel, Saudi Arabia and ANY other location within that area. What if we were to publically state that we don’t really care what Israel does over there? I personally am sick and tired of hearing how evil the Israelis are when they are continually “terrorized” by a people that essentially defined terrorism to begin with.
Oh, before I forget the rest of the globe, let’s leave Japan, Cuba, Korea, and the Philippines.
Remember that devastating tsunami that killed thousands of people? Let’s just forget about helping them rebuild, just take all that money we are sending via our government, individuals and other non-profit organizations and instead put it into our own economy… last time I checked, we certainly could use it.
Lest we forget one of the biggest complainers… lets finally revoke the ability of the United Nations to even have a single facility or individual here in the United States. Send it to a tropical island somewhere… they might actually believe that their presence there is wanted, and needed.
Let’s stop giving help to Columbia to combat the drug cartels there. What do I care about Afghanistan and its poppy crop? Do I really care what China and Taiwan are doing? Russia needs help with their fledgling democracy?..So what! What do I care if French youth riot in the streets for no apparent reason? I know that there are numerous other places, but I’m giving myself carpal tunnel syndrome from my hammering of this keyboard…
It could essentially be a short-term windfall for the United States to have all that money, labor and lack of caring for anything other than ourselves. In the long-term…. Well that’s another matter entirely. Next time you hear the media relay others words of how ‘bad’ America really is, let’s just consider the alternative for a few minutes.
This is something I both wish for and hope never happens, maybe because I am able to see beyond mere rhetoric to see the benefits of foreign aid; regardless of whether it comes from the United States or any other country.

I think the problem of totally giving up on helping other countries is that we won't deserve help when we ask for it.
I'm not sure how I feel about not giving aid to other countires. On one hand, I'd like our soldiers to get out of the Middle East. On the other hand, there are people in other countries who are much more economically unstable than we are, and could certainly use the help.
....maybe we should hold off on helping other countries until we get our on economy stable again?
I agree that "doing unto others as you would have them do unto you" is pretty powerful. I am not condoning that this 'what-if' actually take place, but it does put a few things into perspective for me.

Take us out of those countries. What is wrong with going back to our stance of anti-interventionism? I say we don't interfere in other countries problems and go back to being a hope for the world and not a police of it.
The only problem with being anti-interventionistic versus isolationistic, is that they are too closely intertwined. In today's global economy, there is literaly no economic reason to become isolationist. Take for instance North Korea... They are attempting to isolate themselves from the world, and paying a high price for it too.

Yes, isolate themselves. Anti-intervention keeps us in the economy but it means we aren't major assholes in the world arena. If we had stayed the anti-interventionist course, we wouldn't be having this problem with Al-Qadea or Iran. With today's global economy it is possible to be anti-interventionist, but it is not possible to be an isolationist, but I never said anything about isolationism.
Very nice isolationist blog. I'm not sure I completely agree in terms of rebuilding, but it was very passionate and well written. Props
