The United States is in a time of war with the traditional peoples of Iraq. The nation's military are in attemps to establish a democratic government.
I thought that being in a country in war would be different. The first several years featured a patriotic nation--many people flaunting Americanism thought poster, flags, and verbal expression broadcasted though the media. We weren't going to let the affects of 9/11 bring a nation of peole down. We showed that we are strong and wanted to live our lives despite the attack. The gun-ho patriosim lasted for a couple of years. The war has not ceased, soldiers are still deployed and Americans are still dying for the freedom of Iraquis.
Do we still feel the losses and the effects of the war? Personally, the lack of acknowledgement of the war surprises me. I thought that there would always be a thick cloud of sadness over the country--nothing like things are today. I feel like the war is passing by more unacknowledged than should be. I really think that it should be recognized more, especially that children are loosing their parents, siblings and such. Moreover, Iraquis have been displaced and if we don't succeed, soldiers have lost thei livesand the displaced have lost their homes and have to start a new life elsewhere. Many people lost a lot at the fault of this war and, for this, people need to be aware of the sacrifices made so that others may live in freedom. People need to reflect and be thankful for the corageous men and women who make freedom possible.- "Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it."

I definitely wouldn't go so far as to say that the war isn't being acknowledged. It is definitely in the minds of most Americans. I think, though, that the problem lies in the fact that so many people are just fed up with the partisan politics surrounding the war. It is hard to concentrate on what we are losing when we're being inundated with the bickering and fighting of those supposedly in charge. So long as both sides keep playing politics with the lives (or deaths) of soldiers, they make it easier for people to forget what that really means; it just becomes another statistics to add fuel to the political fire that is raging over the war. Instead of seeing another American life that was lost; we see another reason to bring the troops home and hate the Republicans or another reason we have to keep fighting the war and hate the Democrats.
It's ridiculous.
