Thursday, March 30th seemed to be like the D-day for colleges. Many people were upset on Friday. A common thought of those who were rejected was screw affirmative action, to put it politely. Were people with such great grades and ranks rejected because of their ethnicity? It’s not fair, but who knows that might be what worked to my advantage when I got into Wharton. It is not fair to all these people who worked so hard and it didn’t pay off. Many people were like “man, I should have put that I was Puerto Rican or Hispanic or Black.” A teacher of mine told us that right now it sucks to be Indian or Asian because colleges are finding out that they have money too and they’re not exactly minorities anymore. And well whites are the majority, which is why it’s harder too. The valedictorian did not get into Columbia, the school that he really wanted to go to, and he accredits that with the fact that he’s Italian. But the #3 person in the school, who is Indian, did not get into Columbia and was waitlisted for Cornell. We’re all so baffled with how these colleges make their decisions.
