Is it just me or is religion today evoloving to it's outerboundaries? For instance, last night while watching the nightly news I saw a segement where a priest killed a nun. Now, I know, not every relgious figure in the world is like that. But come on, a role model for religon killing a nun?! Just that makes me doubt religon all together, if the priest, minister, rabaii, etc, has to kill someone (let alone a nun) then it puts that religon on watch.
Watch actually defines religon in the first place? I mean you have the ones who believe in something and heaven, and hell, and then there are the athestis, which disregard all. So considering this, can anyone make up their own religon? For me, after hearing this and anther incident in my life that I will not mention, I began to question why can't I pick apart characteristics of different types and form my own belief, and my brother calls me an athesist, because I didn't say I believed the exact Christian ways.
Then there is the debate over the Da Vinci Code, and saying the Pledge at school- when is it going to end, and live the way your suppose to life according to what you belive in and at the same time not getting upset when someone says what you believe is wrong?

Religion is a fundamental and foundational element in society. Even Thomas Hobbes, a social contract theorist and author of Leviathan, agreed to this and worked it into his own governmental philosophy. Karl Marx and Frederick Engels drew from Hobbesian government theory when writing The Communist Manifesto.
It is when man abuses his rights in the name of religion that there comes to be a problem.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" ~Edmund Burke
EVERYONE has a religion, because believe it or not, even believeing in nothing is a religion, for you BELIVE nothing. We are only humans, we make mistakes, no one is 100% correct. Some religious authorities can be bad, and kill, but it's not the religions fault.
-If no religion fits you, then pick and choose.
A common mistake is believing that atheisms believe in nothing. I am an atheist. And I can certainly tell you that I don't believe in nothing. I believe in peace, universal brotherhood and respect for each other, all things which I believe religion (as long as each believes that they have the one right way) will always prevent.
