Nuclear Power: Is It Time?

Nuclear power is one of the best energy resources we have to use, but due to the possibility of danger that comes along with using it, our world has been forced to use different sources of energy. We've come up with some pretty good ideas, like wind power and solar energy, but both of those combined cannot even come close to the amount of energy that nuclear power can give us. Not only is energy produced for hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses in the area, but there is no CO2 and greenhouse gases being released into our atmosphere. So here's the question: is it time for us to use more nuclear energy?
The accident that occurred back in 1979 has many people worried that another could happen and kill people, so nuclear power has been put on the back burner for quite some time now. But now that our world is in desperate need of conservation and clean methods of getting energy, nuclear power has come back into the picture. Most people quickly say no to the idea because they only think about the negatives that could come from the situation. I think that it would be better for us to use nuclear power than to keep consuming resources and continually kill our atmosphere.
Ok, so what if people start agreeing to it? After the site has been approved and everything has been processed, the fastest a plant could be up and running is about 8 years. That's a long time considering how much our world has changed in the past few years alone. The odds of us agreeing to use such power any time soon isn't very good, but if it becomes too late, what will happen?
There is so much fear in our world, but we are running out of options. Personally, I think nuclear power will have to be used more if we keep consuming things at the rate we do.

Before we switch over to other major sources of energy, we'll need to be prepared for any consequences that come. We already use nuclear power, solar energy, and wind energy (wind mills), but not yet to the scale you suggest. Someday it will be possible. Hopefully the transition will work out just fine.

I am a big proponent of nuclear power.

I worked at a nuclear power station in Oswego, NY for a few months as an intern. It was one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. Nuclear power is incredibly safe; there are safeguards safeguarding the safeguards for the safeguards. Everything is very controlled, unlike Chernobyl where the plant design was poor and the employees poorly trained / compensated.
