Fundraising for non-profits such as ProgressiveU comes in many different directions. As you've undoubtedly noticed by now, we have begun stepping up our fundraising efforts here on the site and elsewhere. The majority of our funding comes from donors and sponsors without whom the scholarships would not be possible.

As students, there isn't always enough money to go around. Many of you have expressed an interest in helping with fundraising, but just don't have the cash to help.

Now you can!

As part of that fundraising process, we're happy to announce that ProgressiveU is now officially listed on GoodSearch and GoodShop. Anytime you search via GoodSearch, ProgressiveU will earn one penny to help us reach our goals. And any time you shop at one of the 700 retailers partnered with GoodShop, ProgressiveU can earn a portion of the profits!

GoodSearch is a search engine that donates 50 percent of its revenue to nonprofits that have been designated by GoodSearch users. GoodShop is a mall of vendors and merchants that have agreed to help fund these non-profits by donating .5 to 20 percent of profits from sells made to the non-profit of choice.

So... how can you help?

First, if you haven't already, check out GoodSearch and GoodShop. You can select ProgressiveU as your non-profit of choice and anytime you search or shop, ProgressiveU will earn money which will go back into the scholarship fund and other associated costs!

Next, help us spread the word! Tell your friends and family about GoodSearch and GoodShop and ProgressiveU's listing on both. If you have a social networking account or a website, you might consider adding a logo to GoodSearch and GoodShop. You might also consider adding the GoodSearch toolbar, making GoodSearch your homepage, or adding GoodSearch to your email signature. The page linked about (logo) lists several ways in which you can help!

Finally, have fun with it! It may not seem like much, but every little bit counts.

If you have other suggestions for fundraising, we'd love to hear about them. You can email those to us at ideas@progressiveu.org

If you use Firefox, you can add GoodSearch to the search bar in the upper right corner of the browser. That'll make it very easy for you to search using it. I'm pretty sure they have a toolbar for IE as well.

They do. I made hubby add it to his list of search engines for IE. :)

I like the idea. I've started using it for whenever I need to use a search engine.

Some things aren't clear to me though, and maybe I should blame this on my own personal thickheadedness.

When I was checking out the "amount raised" section for ProgU on Good Search, I started reading the fine print at the bottom. The way it's worded, it seems that image searches don't count as a search you can do to help a charity. Is that true?

Image searches do not count... and I don't know why. I haven't been able to get that one clarified as of yet. Their FAQ says:

Do all of my searches count toward donations?

All of your searches will count toward donations except for the following: 1) image searches; 2) video searches; 3) "search this site" searches; 4) searches for URL's (i.e., search terms ending in .com, .org, .net, .edu); 5) searches to sites for which the URL is well known such as HotMail, ESPN, MySpace, Facebook, GMail, AOL, etc.; 6) searches for stock quotes; 7) searches for word definitions, and 8) any searches generated from fraudulent use of the site.

That's what I thought, but that sucks. All those image searches I did didn't count. I guess maybe this site isn't looking for people to search for stupid stuff....just informational things, say, for a paper to be written or whatever.
