Current events, Public Policy and Issues affecting young people:
The first event that comes to my mind is the Oil crisis we have. I believe it is a conspiracy, for one it is general knowledge these days that major oil companies are amongst the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world. Their enormous incomes have a say a great deal to economies all over the world and this gives them immense pull in these economies. It is no speculate than those conspiracy theories and myths of large degree of evil plots bound by these major oil producers. They vary from the ludicrous to quite plausible. Just about everything from the removal of alternative energies from never-making it into the marketplace to wars, has been blamed on these major oil companies. Some of them are very believable while others seem to stretch the truth. Are oil companies really behind theses vast conspiracies? Have they really been scheming to start wars and destroy the environment? It is rather difficult to find real hard facts that this could be but when gas goes to $4.50 and up a gallon, it does make you wonder.
Immigration is becoming a major problem. Federal immigrant law decides whether a person is an alien, and related legal rights, duties, and requirement of alien in the United States. It also provides means by which certain aliens can become naturalized citizens with full rights of citizenship. Immigration law serves as a gatekeeper for the nation’s border; it determines who may enter, how long they may stay and when they must leave. But that is not always the case. The United States has a long history of immigration laws. The immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, with some minor and many little changes, continues to be the basic immigration law of the country. The most significant amendment to the INA was in 1965 which abolished the natural origin provisions, and established a new allocation system.
Language and Culture in an Immigrant Society-the misunderstanding of culture on the part of the number one type is responsible for the breakdown of communication between different people culture. Culture happens in the difference between our expectations and reality. Culture is not this thing out there that can be objectified, it is happening to us. Language is the power in our communities. Even in our school community we see how those with voices are heard and responded to. They are the ones collaborate for change and progress is not only on campus, but also globally.
The War on Iraq-for years the United States has came across many situations with Saddam Hussein, but until now, solving this catch-22 has not been a top priority on the United States’ agenda. Action against Iraq was put on hold until after the war in Afghanistan was over; that explains the timing of this new policy. Since President Bush has now decided that it is appropriate to take some sort of action against Iraq, the United States is faced with many decisions.
Iraq is a threat-a good word is argumentation it is means; a process of making arguments intended to justify beliefs, attitudes, and values so as to influence others. A good example on October 7, 2002, when President George Bush summarizes the Iraqi threat and argued that action is necessary. It involves reasoning, evidence and claims, all of which can be found in the president’s speech. Bush begins his speech with a proposition, “to discuss a grave threat to peace. The threat comes from Iraq.” A proposition is a type of claim, a main claim that serves as a basis for an absolute argument. Iraq, as a threat to peace in the United States and peace in the world is the proposition (claim) that Bush supports throughout his speech and analyze the claims, evidence, in order to get a broad view of argumentation and its components. After September 11 we Americans were very anxious to protect ourselves from more terrorist attacks. We thought that Iraq was responsible for encouraging and organizing terrorist attacks against itself and its allies, and we were right, so we have to take all measures to defense our selves, family and our country.
Racial Discrimination- is a reality in our society that affects all people. Racial discrimination is an ongoing human judgments that U.S., citizens can’t really stop. The life likelihood and opportunities of people of color in the United States are limited as compared to whites. The legacy of historic discrimination continues to weigh on the present and current day discrimination persists throughout American life-in access to healthcare, educational services, employment opportunities, wages levels, capital, the criminal justice system, and media employment. We have to learn to get along and not be judgmental, and learn from each other cultures.
A serious look in current events facing juvenile, the juvenile justice system was founded on the belief that juveniles should be rehabilitated from committing crime. It was the belief of the government needs to play a more active role in the rehabilitation of juveniles. This belief held strong until the 1980’s when President Ronald Reagan took office. The beliefs in juvenile rehabilitation were fading and an alternative was rapidly being put into motion, juvenile incarceration. This was working in itself a good way solving the rising rates of crime was to incarcerated, making them more responsible and accountable for their actions.
Another conflict affecting teenagers is sex and pregnancy’s, teenagers in the United States are experimenting with sexual activities more and more today than ever before, and the sad thing about this issue, is that it is more today than ever before, it is becoming a common-place in our society because it is not being grimace upon as if were just a couple of years ago. It is now, a known fact that majority of high school aged boys and girls would have engaged in some sort of sexual activity by the time they graduate high school, 50% of girls and women aged 15 to 19 told the National Center for Health Statistics, they had had sex. 55% of single males aged 15 to 19 have had sex. Also, distressing, is the growing rate of children having sexual intercourse before they are of the age of thirteen. The problem with teenage pregnancy is considerably worse in the United States than in almost any other residential country.

Hi and welcome to ProgressiveU!
If I may, I'd like to give you a few pointers:
You seem to have a lot of things you want to talk about, and that's great! To get more discussion going in your blogs, though, you should focus each blog on just one topic. That way you can expand on any points you want to make without worrying that your blog will be too long for people to read. It will also be easier to research anything you want to write about. It will also give you more blogs to write, which will increase the number of points you earn towards a scholarship (just be sure you space those blogs out. People here tend not to like seeing 3 or 4 blogs by the same person in one day).
Another piece of advice for you is to watch the formatting. I know sometimes, if you're copying and pasting from word document, the line breaks don't show up in the blog on the website, so it ends up looking like one huge block of text. This can be really difficult to read. So just be sure to preview your blog and see if your paragraphs are separated.
Good luck with the competition, and I hope you enjoy your Progressive U experience! I look forward to seeing more blogs from you in the future!
