We all know the feeling. We are young, in our late teens or early twenties. We are untouchable. The feeling that you can get away with anything and that common thought of "that can't happen to me" often comes into mind.
With this mentality comes selfishness, stupidity, and just all around bad situations.
Trust me, I know.
Last October some friends and I went to New Orleans for Voodoo Fest. Like many others we stock piled on "special" brownies, rolling papers, and our own personal stashes.
Since I was only an occasional smoker, meaning once or twice every few months, I thought that nothing bad could come out of this occasional use of my little illegal friend.
Well, my feelings of invincibility were soon blown to shreds as those handcuffs latched on to my wrists and i was escorted into the back of a cop car.
I spent a grand total of 23 hours in Grenada County Prison. My cell mate was in there for attempted murder of her three children, cheating boyfriend, and her dog. She had "Jesus" written all over the wall in what I am thinking was red lipstick. She was crazy and she stole my morning waffles.
It is no fun calling your dad at 2 AM asking him to bail you out of jail. It was the most painful phone call I have ever made. He thought I was joking because as he said "[I] was not nearly stupid enough to put myself in that sort of situation." Sadly to say, I was.
What people do not seem to realize is that pot is illegal and therefor can get you into a heap of trouble, despite your personal beliefs on it, or the reasons for which you use it.
This invincible feeling not only relates to drug uses, but general stupidity in general.
For instance, I used to jump out of cars going anywhere between 25 to 50 mph. It was a rush and my mentality was "I can't get hurt. I can never die."
Well I did get hurt, not severely, but badly enough to disable me from stating a complete sentence without thinking very intensely about the words that I was trying to get out of my mouth. That lasted about a day.
I have been lucky. I have many friends who have not been so lucky. I have had friends die, go to jail, get pregnant, and lose much of their brain activity due to this invincible feeling.
So in their memory, I am trying to get through to younger people and help them to understand that bad things can happen to them, especially if they take part in stupid and dangerous activities that may not only cause pain to them, but anguish to those who care about them.
Invincibility should be left to superheroes and comic book characters.

i was not referring to you as one of my pregnant friends. Well, only your first pregnancy, you were young. I'm not saying it is a bad thing, just bad timing.
I love you mommatrishy-poo!!
Yes, I was not very bright. In fact I'd like to refer to my teenage self as one of the stupidest people I have ever come across. Which is why I wrote this blog. I am trying to hopefully keep atleast one person from making some of the mistakes I did.

It's extremely inspiring, and it did change my perspectives on a few things. But not all of us are like that, and being smart about things results in fewer consequences.

This is a good, honest blog entry. It's such a good story to tell because not only did you do some things that weren't very good for you, you learned a great lesson and pass that on to others. Kudos to you.
But *gasp*! The murdering wife stole your morning waffles!? This cannot be tolerated. Simply cannot be tolerated....People these days, huh?
Great entry!
