Life Decisions

Well, I have forced myself to do some major thinking and soul searching over the past month or so. Although I thought I was fully prepared to go back to school, the economy has proven me wrong. I decided to drop out of my Masters program and work as many jobs as I can to save my house. After all, I am sure that keeping a roof over my head out ranks education, or at least, I am pretty sure it does.

Anyway, I took an incomplete in the Summer course I was taking so I could open up my schedule to work as many jobs as possible. The funny thing is that all I have found so far is a part time position, which is not very helpful at this point. I am hoping for a full time job as well, the sooner the better! Maybe I was a little premature in my decision to drop out of school, but it was so difficult to concentrate on class work when I can barely keep my head above water.

So, I have been avoiding the world in hopes of finding some way to dig myself out of this hole. Too many people in this country are losing their homes and their jobs. I read an article about how so many are living out of their vehicles these days. It is such a scary thought.

As far as education, I have been inspired by a blog I read here quite some time ago about certifications. I am thinking I can just save up some money and take a bunch of IT certifications and maybe I will be able to find a better job. Or maybe I should just move to India and take on a customer service position that used to exist here in America.

Somehow, things have to get better, right?

I wish things were going better for you, and I do hope you can get around to finishing your master's program sometime. Good luck on finding a job.

What is a master's program?

What is so important about it, is it a key item one needs to allow him/her to keep on studying?

How many languages do you speak and understand?

I’m amazed money is always such a big issue in the US when it boils down to education.

Really sad to read about your situation!

Wish you all the best of good luck!

Thanks for all of the kind words. I am not really upset about dropping out of school, it was more realistic to be working as opposed to school right now. Besides, I am thinking that I may be better off just getting a bunch of computer certifications. Life doesn't always go the way one would expect it to....

I know I have been gone for awhile but now I am back. I'm sorry about school and I understand alittle bit of what you are going through. I might as well be unemployed because they only schedule me one day a week or a few hours a day. I can barely save any money at all and this is living at home with my dad. Since I have had this job (last nov) I haven't been able to pay my dad insurance, car payment, cellphone. All I have been able to give him is food money. My paychecks for 2 weeks have been 100-200 dollars. My school payment is really putting a kill on me. It is 243 a month and my books were about 500 dollars.

I am really sorry about your situtation and I know you can save your house. I really understand about the economy I am feeling it as well. Keep your head up and stay strong. You know I am her for you!

Dani:

If you can, return the books you just got and find copies that are one edition behind the required text from on-line stores. I have been using Alibis (sp?) since they have a large list of sellers. The previous editions you can usually find used for less than $10 even if the used copies of the current edition are over $100. I have found VERY minor differences between some of the texts, but everything else was identical. None of the differences (many times just a different photo or something silly) have EVER affected my class work. I have always saved HUNDREDS of $$$ getting books this way.

P.S. I now have 2 jobs, so I will be SWAMPED working tons of hours a week, but at least I finally found work!!! I am SO excited!
