Why does "high school never end"?

Tagged:  •

Perhaps you've heard the popular song "High School Never Ends". You probably already have an accurate idea of what this blog entry is all about.

Listening to the song, I am forced to realize how very true it is. Musical entertainment or not, the lyrics tell alot. In high school you have bullies and popular people and jocks. What's life outside of high school? Bullies (at jobs), popular people (celebrities) and jocks (sports stars). It really IS all the same! As high schoolers, we go through those four short years to hope for something more, something better, than what we are experiencing now. We think "College will be fun, we'll be adults, everything will be on a different level than it is now". But it isn't, is it? College is just harder high school, where you'll most likely meet more cliques than you did in high school. People are still obsessed over beauty and personal image, and there are still the unfortunate few who are forgotten in the rush of things and are deemed "unpopular".

[didn't have time to finish, I shall continue rant later!!!]

STAY TUNED :)

i agree with you. I think they wrote the song because they realized that it is the same. On that same token it's not. It's not the same for high schoolers. When i get out of high school, i do not have to go to college. I wont be called truant if i miss more than 8 days. Past four years of high school, we can do what ever we want. We dont have to go to work, we can get fired and get another job. There is no one telling us what we have to do. In school we have to worry about the popular and the jocks and the unpopular because we deal with them everyday. We have class with them. In the real world, I dont have to care about celebrities or jocks. What they do would effect me. Having a job with the bullies might affect me but I could always work harder to get a promotion, or i could transfer work stations or even find i new job. It is not like i'll be stuck seeing them everyday for 4 year. What you do matters in the real world. I can vandalize my opponents school now, but if i do that in the future i wont get a slap on the wrist.

The difference between high school, and everything else, I think, is responsibility. Because it's true, the only person you will have to answer to is yourself. Maybe your parents will be disappointed if you keep changing jobs, but there isn't a whole lot they can do if you aren't relying on them. In college, if you want to skip, go right ahead. Your grades might suffer, but you can drop the class or take it over if you fail. If you over spend, yeah, your credit will drop, but so what? You can live in a friend's basement if it gets bad enough. So consequences aren't as important as they used to be. What matters, is do you think you are doing the right thing.
