The office of China fair trade.
The Rep. of Michigan in the House of Rep. asked for an amendment to a bill, that the china fair trade office get double their funding. Instead of six million he proposed that the office get twelve million dollars to police china’s imports to this country. China is sending some goods that are not allowed in the US. They use pesticides that are harmful to the environment and poisonous to humans. They have sent poison toothpaste, bad cat food, and many other things not reported in the news; like lead objects. I believe some funding is necessary for the health of people. The Rep. of Michigan though, I believe he implied that he thinks that America should be responsible for improving other countries food sources. (SEE OTHER BLOG)

He implied that the US should educate China, redefine better relations with that country. He implied that this would take money and time. Rep. Patrick Kennedy stated that six million would not be enough to do what the Rep. of Michigan wants. He implied that there must be a better way to do what the China office does.
I believe however, that the bulk of the money would be more appropriate to give to the Ports that police what comes into the country. Redefining and publishing what is considered food…e.g. I consider any product used in or on my body to be in the “food” category. I.e. Toothpaste and shampoo would be food along with perfume. Providing guidelines and rules for these new categories would be clearer and prohibiting import to this country if rules are not met.
In congress today the amendment was not passed because it would take away money from the important Census. The Rep. of W. Virginia implied that although the office of China fair trade was extremely important it was “a terrible offset.” The Rep. of W. Virginia, Alan Mollohan defended the census throughout the reading of the bill. HE called the constant amendments that sought to steal funding from the census a “run on the census.”
