Hope for those of us that drive.

When I first got my license three years ago, gas prices were beginning to rise. I never got to enjoy buying gas for a dollar or hardly two dollars. At those prices I would have traveled the world. But that is a day long gone, but we may experience it again. . . for awhile. Often we here the complaints of gas being up to four dollars and going on to five dollars, and the conspiracy is out that the government is wanting us to be divided to where we can't travel and revolt against them! But let us see what IS happening and will be an option for us who are dependent on gasoline.
Many of my friends are buying motorcycles! This is a great way to help the environment and save money on gas since most bikes get 50mpg! The con is falling down, and winter. I live in Michigan where it snows for what seems like 9 months. So some of my cousins are buying mopeds that they would like to drive to work since they live so close. I guess this works as well, but it is somewhat funny.
Many people with diesel trucks and such are switching their diesel fuel to bio fuel. It's about a $1,000 to buy the kit to create your own fuel for a diesel engine for $2 a gallon. Basically running off of vegetable oil, and doing your own mixing. which most cars did during the 1930's. Back then they called it peanut oil. But unleaded fuel was introduced, and it was cheaper then peanut oil, therefore everyone bought unleaded fuel. But this isn't the case for today. There are very few pump stations to the west that serve bio fuel. Sadly this is only for an automobile with a diesel engine, and the pump stations aren't spreading rapidly. So buying a kit and mixing it yourself is what needs to be done if you are considering this option. How easy or safe is the mixing process? It's so easy that college kids are asking McDonald's for their left over grease and vegetable oil so they can mix it. And it's about as safe as cocking, I haven't heard of anyone getting hurt from it. Besides that it is supposed to smell like french fries too, which some people enjoy. But this ISN'Tsome fast pace revolution that is sweeping across America!
Many have demanded for the drilling of oil on our coastlines! At Oakland University a man had asked McCain if he would dig for oil if he became president. McCain responded by saying No! That he couldn't because states had their own legislation to where he couldn't govern what they did with their oil, and that we have to concentrate on solar and wind power to get our cars moving! But of course he was proud to say that he would continue the war. As frustrated as it sounds McCain was right. Drilling offshore has been banned in most of the American coastline. Why? To protect tourism and to lessen the chances of beach-blackening spills. Oh, and to help the environment. Thankfully Bush is planning on Wednesday to ask congress to lift the drilling moratoria that have been in effect since 1981 in more than 80 percent of the country's Outer Continental Shelf and to let states help to decide where to allow drilling. McCain has now changed his viewpoint, and decided that is also time to boot the ban of coastline drilling. Obama has stated that getting the ban removed now wouldn't help lower prices until 5 years. Of course it would help, be it now or 5 years. Many say this is a bad idea, and experts say it would take ten years before the oil would reach our shores. But if this was to work out this would give us more time to do more research on our hybrids.
Yes hybrids are a good way to go, but they are not the best, not yet. Many new hybrids will get 150 miles per gallon. Cars that are being tested right now that aren't concept cars! One of which is the prototype hybrid car that gets 150MPG, and goes 40 miles on electricity alone, drawing its power from a combination of lithium-ion batteries and ultra-capacitors. The prototype is based on a Saturn Vue Green Line. It was created by AFS Trinity. This is one car that will come out in 2010, and cost around $31,000. Still a bit of a price, but worth it. The average American will spend 40 miles driving from place to place in a day. With this car one could do that with electricity. This technology will of course continue to grow and more and better cars will come in the future.

I think that instead of focusing on changing our fuels we should focus on driving less. If we reduce our daily driving, we can cure the problem instead of treating the symptoms.

That is a good idea, but many of us are driving less. I know this for myself becuase I am driving less. But I'm still hurting from paying gas. Many Americans are in debt, or have high bills, because we are a spending nation. But I wouldn't mind have a car that got 40 miles on electricity. But I don't think bio fuels has a chance. But I encourage the research being done for a better driving experience.
