Recently, on Feb 19th, Cuba's president for almost 50 years renounced to be president of the country anymore, and announced his name would not be in the elections this year. It is a pretty peculiar thing that for over 40 years there have been no elections in this country and precisely when the first one is about to take place, the president of the country decides to back up. The issue has been a total boom for the South Florida's Cuban population since many of them have been waiting for a change for a long time now.
Having to live in the exile for many years, many people are waiting for a political and economical change in that country, for them to be able to go back to their home town and start a new life ever there. Now the question is: is such a change going to occur? I personally think nothing will happen in the near future since we all know that Fidel Castro's brother, Raul Castro, has no experience at all on how to govern a country, and indeed will not be the best one for this position.
Many years will happen before anything changes aver there, first of all because the country's population has done nothing about it all this time. Those who opened their eyes to reality and got out of the cubicle in which Castro has had them forever, did not fight for freedom but went to other places looking for it. That explains the high level of immigration in the US. It is true that the people currently living in that country can no longer survive without food or freedom of speech, but, are they going to do something about it?
I don not think that Raul Castro will be so ignorant as to not try to do new things for his country and perhaps he will see himself obligated to commercialize with other countries including US, but many things would have to change for that major event to happen. Only time will tell if anything good or bad will bring the resignation of the Cuban last president .
