It doesn't matter what I think. It matters what I do. I have come to realize this lately that the actions I take in the world will be more effectual than the things that come out of my mouth. Take for instance the current political campaigns. Hillary says she will do all kinds of things for our country involving health care and the people. She is however in bed with big government. Obama says he is against special interests, yet he has a record of voting for special interests. And these are the people I like...
The thing is, people are judged by the actions they take. I know, I know, these things are just contextual and I will probably be voting for one of these candidates. I just wish that people would actually do what they say. With all of the promises that come from presidential candidates, will they actually follow through? Will we have universal health care - mandated or otherwise? Will we have a better educational system? Will they actually pull the troops out of Iraq? Only to put them back in somewhere else maybe? There are so many questions and I am already sick of the election. Yet somehow I am drawn to watching them. I think it was John Stewart one night who pondered how you can get 8 hours of election coverage out of so little information. They also are so interested in the "Hispanic, White, or Black" vote. Who is it that divides our country? Who is it that shows us, with much "disapointment," what is going on in this world? The media. They have made this election into a racist one. They are the ones out there who aren't sticking to the issues and choosing to focus on what color, gender, or age the candidates and the voters are.
I guess this is a general rant about the political process. I am not comfortable with how things are done. The only way they will change is if we attempt to make that change. I am not sure how but I am registered to vote. That is at least something I can do. My last thought about elections is to say, vote for who you want; don't bow to pressure from other people. I know there may only be 4 or so people on the ballot during the general election (yes there will be a Green party candidate and I think Nader is running as Independent). If you aren't comfortable voting for these people, write in who you want. It's your vote. In the Soviet Union (yeah, yeah, I know - but they did have some good ideas) if you didn't like any of the candidates you could write in "none of the above" and they would have to scrap all the candidates and start again. Just a thought.
Random rants on the political process.
