Yes it has happened, there is a new funeral profession that advocates the lower cost funeral.
It is called " The Funeral Negotiator" or "The Funeral Advocate" This is an individual or group of individuals who charges you a few hundred dollars and guarantees to save you more than a thousand US dollars on your Funeral.
Your Funeral Guy and RestinPeace supports these individuals. It is a positive step in helping others lower their funeral costs on services like embalming and cremation. I have not engaged in taking money for helping others lower the cost of funerals but I have helped families negotiate a lower cost funeral with Funeral Directors. Quite simply this is done by giving people information. It is done through blogs and other media resources.. With some basic funeral cost and funeral expenses information one can easily become your own funeral negotiator.
