The tyranny of the Politically Correct

I am all for being respectful and polite to other people, but are we beginning to go a bit overboard with the entire scheme of being "Politically Correct"? How much do we really need?

It seems as though every thing from job descriptions to holiday greetings and even personal identifiers have been affected in one way or another by this growing trend. Does it actually do any good, though?

I don't think so; at least not any more good than not.

I find that people are now finding the use of Politically Correct speech offensive. Where it was once meant to ensure that no one could be offended by such words as a holiday greeting, people are now finding cause to claim that using a politically correct, generic holiday greeting is somehow undermining the value of that person's respective holiday. How, I really don't know.

Why should we worry so much about being politically correct when the same number of people will find offense anyway? I feel as if there are times when I am watching out for egg shells while talking to people rather than really getting my thoughts into words. I spend more time thinking about the "right way" to say something rather than just saying it.

Does anyone else feel this way?

I do realize a need for some political correctness within speech patterns; But should it have to be with every part of every thing every day to every person?

There is a right way to say something, thats why there is correct grammar and spelling.

There was an interesting study done by a major University I am sure many people are familiar with. The study found that the human mind is able to decipher words spelled incorrectly , in a native language of course, as long as the correct letters are present, and the first and last letter on placed correctly.
For Example,
I ma srue yuo wlli be albe to udernanstad tihs stenence.

So does spelling really matter all that much?
Just some food for thought

No I don't feel that way at all. Perhaps it is because I am a black woman that I don't feel the effects of PCism (at least not in the sense that you give here). I am not afraid to say what I feel needs to be said. Of course, I won't use ethnic slurs against someone or anything like that, but I feel no obligation to speak a certain way (that includes grammar Daimler, lol).

Political Correctness has been taken overboard. Some people will get offended if you say Merry Christmas and they are, for instance, Jewish or Muslim. But they are missing the point.

Yes, I think it's good to recognize and have knowledge of other people's cultures and traditions. But when we start getting offended over such minor things, it is really non-productive.

I totally agree. It is becoming ridiculous. Life is short so get to the point. I think the more people try to be politically correct the more they are uncomfortable with saying what they really want to say. If that's the case then its pathetic. We hide behind words that are suppose to not offend anyone and in reality they're just making us dependent on their use.
