The 3rd way of earning points.

Blacksista's picture

I'm just putting this up, for the slow, or the people who didn't read the rules accurately.

While I read it, just now,  I thought you earn points by getting comments.

Wrong, read below.

"A third way to get points is by placing comments on posts.  You earn 10 points for each comment that you make while logged in."

Who ever in this competiton, get the reading!

"The idea behind this rule is to encourage people to comment on other users' posts, but you also get credit for commenting on your own posts.  Often it's useful to comment on your own posts to add more information or to reply to a commenter.

Just to be clear, you don't get 10 points for comments that other people put on your posts; you get the 10 points for each comment that you make.  However, comments on your posts are generally a good thing.  There are several reasons for this:

a) for someone to comment on your post they must read it, so indirectly you get points from comments
b) comments often generate more discussion, which leads to more "reads,"
c) you and your readers often get valuable feedback from commenters.", ProgressiveU Team qoute.

JUST SO WE CAN HAVE THIS CLEAR!!!!

thanks

Thanks, this was helpful...even though I'm definitely not slow...

I think you earn point to make comments just to keep the the cycle going.

Seems odd that they wouldn't provide points for receiving them too (like 5). Perhaps it would encourage people to start more stimulating discussions with their blogs.

It could also cause others to not comment because they would know that the recipient is gaining points from it.

Comments need to have at least a few sentences though to count and actually receive the points. We should have a Comments FAQ section up in the next few days.

This is very useful, thanks.

Thank you

I'm glad that, inevitably, people will get some comments, because others will want the points for commenting. I got really addicted to commenting today.

Thanks. but I kinda figured it out on my own, before I read this. i wish I read this first though

yeah that kinda was a given if you just read the rules? anyways its all good, so you get 50 points for making this blog... then you get all these read points, so it seems quite fair for the person who made the blog when the people reading it can only get 10 points...

Zena Princess's picture

I was not aware of that. I didn't even know there was a point system here until one day it patted me on the back and gave me some points. Can I trade them in for chocolate? LOL!

jennee's picture

yeah the points can be confusing thanks for clarification.

That does clear things up... although they should give people points for HAVING comments on theirs, too... doesn't that say something about the quality of the post?

Not necessarily. I've seen a lot of blogs that have a lot of comments simply because the blog talked about a controversial topic, like abortion. People started not replying to the original blog, but rather to other people's comments.

I've also seen some amazing blogs that get no comments whatsoever. But they get high ratings. So it's not as if people aren't reading it, it's just that they have nothing to say afterwards.

Just wanted to say thanks for clarifying that =D

its funny how after people read about earning points for commenting blogs people go directly to the comment box. I mean look at me, even i'm doing it. ha.

thanks

technicolor.eyes's picture

yeah i think we should get some points for recieving comments too, but what can ya do i guess

I wonder if there's a minimum on the number of words in a comment for it to earn points....

I have never seen any 1 point additions to my total. Does this mean that no one is reading my posts?

Points for reads aren't added until the end of the contest, as our point system does not measure reads.
