With the growing number of "buddy" friendly sites and blog hot spots we all should be overwhelmed. Are sites like MySpace and Facebook becoming just a little too much? Or are they giving people a blank canvas to paint their own opinions and beliefs? I think that they have indeed become too much. Its almost scary how much of your down time is devoted to sites such as these two. Although I do feel that there is some good that come from always being in touch with your peers, i still have my concerns.
Some of you may disagree, but I feel its a problem when you create a new personality for each site you visit. Its so funny to me that a person's Facebook profile can be totally different from their MySpace profile. You could almost mistake them as being different people. BE REAL! Majority of the MySpace profiles are as FAKE as can be! Its like everybody wants to be the baddest this and the finest so and so. I really feel that people are getting to rapped up in the images that are seen on T.V. I mean if you are not going to have the badass personality in person, don't have it on a website. I think it's extremely LAME! I just want to remind people that it's okay to just be youself and BE REAL!!!

Your post reminds me of a quote from the UW marching band director, and one of my all-time favorite people and inspirations, Mike Leckrone.
"Be who you say you are!"
I love the quote!
You're absolutely right.
But I only use myspace to connect with my friends from all over. I don't go cruising on it. And yeah, some of my stuff is pretty fluffy, but I do use it to let out some of my feelings. I'm not one of these people on there with the sluty profile pics and the baby talk like "u want dis u come an git it". That's LAME. That makes me wanna tell those people to get of the computer in the high school computer lab and do some homework or read a book!
I don't know, I think if people know you well enough in good ole real life, youre facebook/myspace won't matter. And if they don't know you well, it shouldn't matter too much that you're not being real on facebook/myspace.
Other than that, I think this kind of thing is pretty cool.. It's our generation's semi-revolutionary "thing" that we'll look back on while our kids are telepathically communicating with people on Mars or something...lol...
I think you just have to be yourself on both sites, but i think facebook is becoming stalkerish, talking about every little thing you do...=(
To be real, you must believe in something. A lot of people today are confused to the extent that there is minimal authentic and courageous thought taking place. I believe that people today, especially young people (under 29) today want to have real and legitimate conversations about a variety of subjects. On the other hand, my wife disagrees with me that young people want to have these types of exchanges, and IF they do, only within a narrow peer group. I completely DISAGREE with my wife on this. However, the article below from USA Today, lends itself to the whole concept of fakery, and multiple online personas. Check it you. You can also hit me at my Blog at http://globalsocial.blogspot.com/

Have you ever noticed though....
The "fake" profiles you speak of on myspace-relate them to high school. All the preppies in high school, now have these profiles on myspace-where almost all of their info is different from what they really are.
And no-the "majority" of the profiles are not fake. If from what you have seen they are-then you are definately looking at the wrong profiles.
