I was doing my daily routine check on towleroad.com to read about any new updates in political agendas and other world news. Thursday or Friday last week the blogger showed the releases of Hanes new campaign for they’re new tag less underwear. When I saw these three new photos I was appalled by the picture of a giant creature made up of lip stick, knee high pumps, mardi gras masks, same sex couples in different positions with each other. This monster was made up of things stereotypically associated with homosexuals. Next to the monster in big pink letters was the word f*ggot, the monster had a leash that was tied to a man who was choking because of the string. There were two other pictures one with the "n" word and another with the word Paki, both having a monster made up of things that stereotype these cultures. The tagline for this campaign is "Because the world already gives you labels."

Like I mentioned before, at first I was shocked and appalled but after seeing the tagline it makes me wonder. As one of the minorities the company is targeting should I be offended or see it as incredible art? Personally I have still not made up my mind but wonder what you all think.

Also is it acceptable to use offensive words, such as these, that we have fought so hard to bury in history and move towards equality and acceptance no matter what race, religion, or sexuality we are? Personally, I don't like hearing or reading these words unless in literature or referng to history. But are we moving forward to a better future by accepting these slandering words in order to sell underwear and art?

At first I was shocked by the description of the picture, but it looks like the tagline validates that it had a real message afterall. Who knew it could be a positive thing at first glance?
